Reflection on Key Concepts (Module 4)

Image
Although we were already familiar with many of the concepts we studied in Module 4, I would like to mention them since, in my mind, I had some incorrect definitions. The following are the most important concepts that I reinforced during this module: Diagnostic Assessment: These are used to identify students' existing knowledge, skills, and potential misconceptions before instruction begins. Some examples are pre-tests, self-assessments, interviews, and initial discussion board responses. They are amazing because they help teachers tailor instruction to address specific student needs and areas where students might be struggling. Formative Assessment: These are used during the learning process to monitor student progress and provide feedback to both students and teachers. Examples include class discussions, quizzes, exit tickets, observations, and drafts of work. In addition, the benefits are providing ongoing feedback that helps students improve their understanding and skills and ...

Reflection on Key Concepts (Module 3)

Image
Module 3 was short, but we learned many interesting things that will help us in our future as English teachers here in El Salvador. The most important concepts I learned during this module were the following: National Curricula: El Salvador's national curriculum refers to the set of principles, objectives, content, methodologies, and assessments that govern the country's education system at all levels and in all modalities, from early childhood to higher education. In our case, Teacher Isaac shared with us the national curriculum for the Technical Vocational Baccalaureate in Primary Health Care and the Technical Vocational Baccalaureate in Tourism Services. These important documents gave us an idea of how to prepare classes according to MINEDUCYT. Didactical Sequence: Before starting the process of creating the lesson plan, I believed that each class should be different, but now I know that each activity must be related to the previous one in order to obtain better results....

Content Created with AI

Image
I decided to include the following content as it is a journey through everything we have learned so far. First, we created the Funkos, and that is how I got to know Gemini. Then, it was time to learn more about prompts, so T. Isaac asked us to create an image similar to the one he had. With this, I realized that we can be very specific with what we ask for, and we will get exactly what we want. I also included the certifications we did throughout Module 1, as this reflects what we studied and our current knowledge. Then, I added screenshots of the AI tools I have used the most to create content for my students. Besides, you can see my Learning Assistants, which I have created to help me with the specialization course and in my work life. Also, I included the link for you to see the lesson plan we made and the app to help students when analyzing sentences, and finally, I attached the screenshot of one of the feedbacks I got from brisk. All this content demonstrates the vast knowledge I ...

Conclusion and Key Learnings

Image
During these four modules, I learned many new things that changed the way I see teaching and using technology in the classroom. One of the most important things I learned was about Generative AI . I understood that it can help us create new content like texts, images, and audio. Now, I use Gemini more often than before because it gives me better answers when I plan my lessons. I also learned that we must always check the sources that AI tools use.  I additionally learned about Large Language Models (LLMs) . These tools are great for understanding and working with language. As an English teacher, this is very useful because it helps me with activities like summarizing texts or answering questions. Another important idea was the concept of the prompt . I didn’t know before how important it is to give a good and clear prompt. Now, I add more context and details when I ask AI for help, and the answers I get are much better.  I also learned about Responsible AI . We need to use ...

Reflection on Key Concepts (Module 2)

Image
Module 2 of the specialization course was much more practical, but in spite of that, there were also many concepts that will always accompany me in my daily life as an English teacher. The most important ones are the following: Artificial Intelligence applied to ELT: As I mentioned before in this blog, I believed that artificial intelligence tools were only useful for our students because I had the misconception that they were limited to giving answers to the questions we asked them. However, I now know that there are specific tools for us teachers so that we can create didactic material specifically for our students, such as images, presentations, videos, audios, etc., related to the topics being studied. Read Along: A new and very important concept that we as teachers should be aware of is Read Along. It is a Google tool that helps children learn to read, but it is also available in other languages, so we can use it to assign readings in English so they can have their first approac...

Reflection on Key Concepts (Module 1)

Image
T he most important concepts I learned in module 1 are the following: Generative AI: is a technology that allows us to create new content such as text, images, audio, and other data while mimicking human creativity. An example of this technology is Gemini. To be honest, Gemini has been the greatest discovery for me. Before starting this course, I used to ask Chat GPT absolutely everything, but now Gemini is like my best friend, as I trust the answers it provides immensely. Of course, as we have learned in class, we must verify the sources used by the AI tool we are utilizing. But, in general, Gemini provides me with the best information for planning my classes. Large Language Models (LLMs) : LLMs focus on language generation and understanding. I think this concept was one of the most important for us because, as English teachers, we deal with language all the time. We must understand languages, and this subset of learning can help us solve common linguistic problems we encounter (e.g....

Introduction

Image
My AI Journey: From Basic Expectations to Eye-Opening Realities in ELT When I first considered this specialization course in AI, my initial thoughts and expectations were quite basic. I really only knew about tools like ChatGPT and Copilot , which I had used before. I imagined the course would focus on learning how to use perhaps five similar tools to help with English language teaching. However, on the very first day, when teacher Isaac showed us the syllabus and we got access to the information for the four modules, I quickly realized there is an endless world of tools we can use with our students. What is more, I discovered that an AI tool is not just something that provides a requested answer. Applications like Duolingo, DeepL, and Canva , which I used almost daily, are also considered part of this new world of artificial intelligence! We have now completed Module 1: "INTRODUCTION TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DESIGN THINKING",   Module 2: " ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENC...
